Manitoba Mensch Tshirt

This is a shirt we are so proud of. The design for the shirt was inspired by the saying "Touch Grass" and how so many regular people in Manitoba go out and do that everyday. It is a quintessential part of our daily life. Manitoba is filled with people who live simple, practical, and good life that incorporate many elements such as; nature, social and economic good practices, and charitable activities. We are a proud and strong province, tied intimately to the land we thrive and live on.

This shirt celebrates this. The front is a saying "Manitoba Mensch". These words embrace several cultures living in Manitoba, German, Low German, Dutch, and Jewish. These cultures use the word "Mensch" to description a person. We used this word because for us it epitomes how we see the population of our province, tied to our heritage, but also a patchwork of many peoples.

The word "Mensch" means a person, this person could be from any culture, background, or group of people. In our province we have many different peoples' living together caring and living on the land. The image inside the words are of a woman in a sundress walking through a field of golden prairie grain with her arms outstretched touching the grasses as she passes. An activity many Manitobans do every day whether it be wheat or the beautiful tall grasses of the prairies.

The back of the shirt is an extention of the sentiment of the front of the shirt. It continues the story of the people of Manitoba by telling us about how our daily practices impact the world around us. Not only do our grasses touch and speak to us in our daily lives, but the shisper they speak to the winds travels all around the world. Our top four grain exports are listed in front of a bushel of wheat to let the world know that not only do the grasses we touch here ground us, they spread throughout the nations of the world as well. They not only nourish us, but many other souls as well.

We here in Manitoba have a lot to be grateful for, and to celebrate, one bushel of wheat feeds a few, but plant a seed and you can feed a multitude. That is the concept behind this shirt. Not only was the design sentimental, it was also created as a way to give back. A percentage of the proceeds of this tshirt will be given to soup kitchens and charities that focus on feeding those in need.
